Since I completely enjoy writing (and have often attempted to keep a journal), I thought I should start a blog to share my experiences with all those who are interested. Plus, its a great way for friends and family to check up on me and see what's new and for me to do the same.

Chili Cook Off
My mom and I were again part of the Brainerd Lakes Area United Way Chili Cook Off - as past winners, we had high hopes...but unfortunately, we didn't take home the gold. We had a blast though - a couple nights before we attempted to change our recipe (which really just is whatever we feel like putting in it at the time) to a chicken and seafood chili. While the taste of these chili's was paletable, it just wasn't chili - so we went to our standby and cooked up some zesty italian sausage and peppers. We even enlisted Ryan this year (that's who we blame for the loss, he must not have sauteed the peppers right!!) We really do need to get on the decorating bandwagon though - we always do the fall colors, pumpkins, etc - but this year others were awesome with their booths. Their were astronauts, 30s flappers with their gangsta man, sailors, etc. Truly fun and we raised 25,000 for United Way so all is good.

Looked Like Fun
After Amy sent out the VanBeck Blog - I thought what a great way to keep in touch with everyone, see new pics, etc...kind of like MySpace, but not.
Lately, my life has been about work and school - I know, I thought I was done with that as well, but here I am a non-traditional student taking Anatomy and Physiology I in order to obtain a degree in Mortuary Science (it should take me about 2 years or so). I didn't like school much the first time, and its not better this time around. Not that I don't like the people, teachers, material - I just decided after much reflection, I don't like structure (surprising, huh!!). My first exam was today actually - didn't study much...I was of the opinion that I would see what the instructor's tests were like so I could determine the amound of effot I needed to expend. It was kind of fitting that I started school again, because my brother and I just purchased Mario Kart for Ninetendo 64 of e-bay (I know totally old school - but I love that game and Diddy Kong racing too) and it totally brings me back to my first two years of college with Vos, Sam and Zim playing Mario Kart all night instead of doing whatever it was we were supposed to be doing.
Well, that's about the only thing new in my life (other than a great buffet table I purchased the other week - I love furniture shopping).
Thanks for the idea Amis!!
